On April 21st, 2011, 5 representatives of ViaSol Energy Solutions, 2 representatives of Kyocera solar and hundreds of USAA (United Services Automobile Association) employees converged onto a large corridor at the Phoenix office, to celebrate and promote going green in your everyday life... Hence the very catchy slogan GREEN YOUR ROUTINE.
As part of USAA's long standing efforts of conservation and sustainability, USAA and their GREEN TEAM invited green supporting partners like Waxie, Subaru, APS and others to celebrate and promote going green.
In the past USAA has exemplified what it means to go green. USAA reports (AFTER THE JUMP) the following, as of 2009:
WATER CONSERVATION
- USAA has saved more than 83 million gallons of fresh water by using recycled water at the San Antonio Campus.
- Additionally USAA saved an average of 74+ million gallons of water each year for the past 5 years.
- USAA uses drought tolerant plants and retention ponds to capture storm water
- Using computerized irrigation systems to improve landscape watering efficiency, including the use of recycled water where available
- USAA is the 28th largest purchaser of Green Power among fortune 500 companies, according to a reporting program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
- As of February 2010, 25% of the electricity at the San Antonio office is purchased from wind powered energy.
As of late, USAA has teamed with ViaSol Energy Solutions to build a 579 kW elevated single axis solar array atop of their 5 story parking garage. The array will feature approximately 2,464 KYOCERA solar modules, which will provide over 250 shaded parking places and generate 9% of the power consumed at the Phoenix location.
